Harper Knows His Base ~ And So Do We
I have been writing on the internet as the Twain Shall Meet for about seven years now. For the first two years I was only on the discussion boards at MSM web pages, and commenting on News articles.
And I have gleaned a fact or two about the conservative base. I don't claim to have ever made any of them less conservative. It seems that that has never been an option. Though I have had countless interactions with the far Right, I don't believe we can change them. Intransigent as they are we can still defeat them and their right wing ideologies, we simply have got to out number them, not on the discussion sites, but at the polls on election day.
When dealing with the far right I have tried to offer links to information that sheds light on the subject and hand. They don't read them.
This was a comment from a CPC supporter on CBC.ca ~ The article was discussing whether harper would prorogue Paliament to hide from the Senate ?PMO scandal.

at 6:04 PM ETOf course they'll recess early. The union-loving NDP think all people need the summer off and the Liberals need a break too to stew about electing the Papineau Pony to run their ship into the ground.
Sometimes I ask questions of them that require them doing research. They generally do not do that research and the questions go unanswered.

at 8:01 PM ETeveryone here thumbs ProudAB down but, he is, of course, right. Harper has to take the hit but it is the front line civil servant that has dropped the ball along with their less than satisfactory managers that as yet have not instilled the importance of securing their computers and flash drives.
As well, you all hate Harper so much and I find it odd yop don't realize that the civil servants do as well. They do not cooperate with the government of the day if they don't like them and they slow down productivity, lost things or misplace them etc. Meanwhile, because they can't be fired without an act of Parliament short of them committing murder, their managers' hands are tied.
Sometimes I notice them trying to turn the channel. Now, who does that remind you of, eh?

Harper PERSONALLY Cheated in May 2011 Election! ~ We Knew It Then!
I have no idea why there is any doubt that the man at the Top of the "In and Out" and the obvious architect of the on going deconstruction and de-funding of Canadian democratic principles is getting even the shadow of doubt here. Are we that forgetful? Do we reset our minds every news cycle? Are we really as stupid as Harper thinks we are?
Stick around and we'll jog yer memory! He even personally broke the Election Law on May 2, 2011at 1136 PM ET.
Have another look at evidence clearly showing Harper campaigning illegally on Election day 2011!
And he was talking about the fresh news that Osama was dead. If there is anything that reaches out to his kind of crowd, it is news that opponent has been slain. Revenge is a powerful Right Wing aphrodisiac. Note at the end that he gets schooled by a citizen after putting in a shameless plug at the end of the interview.
To me it is hard evidence. There is also much evidence that to the Cons, the concept of evidence is a hard one to get! We can't change them, but we do out-number them. We must concert ourselves to that end.
Seriously, Election Fraud is no harder to prove than all of the other fraud that they have so openly committed! Their entire tenure as the government has been fraught with dismal lapses of reason, ethics or direction. This blog is full of such information.
During the interview Stephen Harper contravined the Elections Canada Act by stating that "It is certain that I will vote, and I encourage all other people to vote, and I encourage people to do the same as me and vote Conservative."
The host of the CKNW call in radio show, Bill Good, was quick to reply to listeners that "We encourage you to vote too, but we encourage you to vote whichever way you feel is appropriate."
Sections 480 to 499 of the Elections Canada Act detail prohibited activites by candidates during the imposed media blackout on election day in Canada.

Second Annual Middle Finger Of The Apocalypse Award Winner ~ Stephen Joseph Harper
For the Second Year Running
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Joseph Harper
Captures the Prestigious
Captures the Prestigious
"Middle Finger of the Apocalypse Award"
&
&
Amazingly this Year it was Unanimous
He was therefore, able to run completely away with the title this past year as he and his cronies were brilliant in their bid to bring new meaning to the words 'intransigence' and 'recalcitrance' in 2011, when he was yet again successful in keeping the Canadian citizenry as well as it's Parliament and all of the Officers of said parliament completely without relevant information.
Not only has he once again been rewarded with the MFA but he reached another coveted milestone when his government (actually renamed in his honour as "The Harper Government" back in late 2010) failed to honestly answer even a single simple question for an unprecedented and world record setting period of just over five years.
Couple that with his amazing ability to convince Canadians that he is a Christian, in spite of his lack of humanity, where he even goes so far as to feign a rather convincing and fervent belief in 'The Rapture', and his selection was an easy choice. It should however, be noted that a belief in the Rapture, is not strictly speaking a pre-requisite under the rules, but given the spirit of the award and it's connection to the Apocalypse it adds weight to the theme and he may therefore be in a position to repeat again next year and for many years to come.
His impressive work with Israel whom he has undeniably helped bring within reach of a huge and glorious holy war with Iran and his innate ability to nurture conflict and division on a massive scale wherever he goes, has endeared him to all who long to see the world end in a fiery rain, whether heaven sent or by the hand of man.
From the Editorial staff of T.T.S.M.

Congratulations Mr. Harper.

Pat Martin Tweets it as He Sees It! ~ And No Effing Apology Is Needed
WARNING!
This post contains some "Industrial Language."
Just as the Conservative Party has done on eight other occasions including their ridiculous Omnibus Crime Bill, since they became a 'Split-Vote Majority', they have stated recently that they would also seek Closure on the Budget. No more discussion, just push it through as quietly as possible. These guys like their stealth. There is no doubt that this Closure will happen, and that all debate will stop, in spite of the huge flaws in everything this government authors, the time for sober thought is over. Or so said the government.
![]() |
| "The best laid plans of mice and men ofttimes go astray" |
Upon a quick reading of that tweet it is not so very hard to sense that he was 'somewhat frustrated' with the way that our long and proud democracy is relentlessly being attacked in the frightening new and still unfolding 'Harper Land.'
When asked repeatedly if he intended to apologise he simply said "No."
He stated very succinctly that he had no intention of retracting any of it. Apparently, unlike the prime minister, Pat Martin knows that it is wrong to make apologies that would not be heartfelt expressions of contrition. Good for You, Mr. Martin, good for You!
And what has become of all this in the first 24 hours?
Well, for starters, Pat's Facebook profile has been getting a lot of friend requests, his Facebook page has been collecting a lot of 'likes', both have been getting a lot of traffic as has his Twitter account. It is gaining followers by the hundreds. I took a screen shot at 8 pm. and another a few moments ago, which is only about 6 hours apart. As you can, see the number of his followers has grown by over 1400 in that short time.

" The (twitter) exchange was monitored by Martin's (at time of publishing) 1,600 followers and caused a stir throughout the Twitterverse. Martin told the Free Press (Winnipeg) this morning he was surprised by the uproar and admitted he'd had "hundreds" of calls since the tweet last night. "I can't believe that," he said.
He also said that most of the comments he is getting from his own caucus colleagues are supportive because they too are so frustrated by the repeated closure of debate by this government.
It (closure ~ttsm) has happened numerous times this fall including on the omnibus crime bill and the bill to eliminate the monopoly of the Canadian Wheat Board. (And I will add my compliments here to Pat for being the Opposition's most effective speaker on that subject. ~ ttsm)
"It (the original tweet) happened while I was voting. I was looking across at them and thinking they don't even know the damage that they've done," he said of the Conservative MPs. "It took the Liberals 13 years to get this arrogant." (it has taken the Harper Government only 6 months~ ttsm)
Interim NDP Leader, Nycole Turmel is not asking Martin to apologize though she doesn’t agree with his words. "His language was not appropriate and could have been offensive to some. That said, the Conservatives' actions are not appropriate in a democracy and offensive to all Canadians."
Martin is known to be one of the most colourful MPs in the House of Commons and has come under fire numerous times for his comments. "
He also said that it was "industrial language" and that having come from a background of construction work, he knew that it was the way many Canadians talk. He also pointed out that the word (fuck) was in fact in the dictionary, which of course it is, and that he felt no apology of any kind was necessary.
I agree Pat, there is no need to apologize, and certainly not to me. I cannot imagine having to work so near the prime minister, or any of his raucous caucus, on a daily basis and not wanting to lash out at the mind-numbing idiocy and ideology that has overtaken this once rather civilized country. The time for passively taking Mr. Harper at face value has long since passed. It is time to stand up to this bully once and for all. It is time to expose his every shortcoming. It is time to see him as he really is, and if one has to be that rude to get the attention of the press, then so be it. I say: Bring it on.
Personally, I just wish that the Corporate owned Media would finally clue in to the fact that all is ^NOT well in Harper Land. They need to understand that the cumulative effect of such a dismal leader's presence among us ( or rather, above us) is more important than their constantly myopic 24 hour news cycle. They really do not seem to 'get' that history is a continuum, that one thing builds on another and that there is a responsibility on their part to see each day in the context of those days, weeks and years that came before it.
Hell, I am still fuming over the "Income trust scandal", The "In and Out Scheme" and all those other 1200 or more issues that have arisen since Mr. Stephen Joseph Harper has come onto the Canadian political scene.
The real story in Canada remains the Harper Government's very well documented contempt and ignorance of our parliamentary process. That is the story that needs to be told.
That may or may not happen. But it certainly begs the same old question:
What does it take to wake up a Country when their own so-called main stream media sleeps so soundly, as their own Democracy is under such a threat?
It reminds me of some sedentary and yet,
very well-paid Rip Van Winkle.

Harperland day 17 ~ Harper Wants Direct Control Over CSIS?
In Canada, (1867-2011) the prime minister was the Chair of only one Parliamentary Committee. Stephen Harper plans to change that. He has decided to set up a new Committee, right here in Harperland, of which he will be the Chairman. This guy moves fast. In fact there was even a bit of Confusion surrounding his willingness to hand over power to a coalition even if the governor general gave the go ahead. This was on (day -1 ~ Harperland) back on the eve of the election on May 1st, 2011. Day zero, or election day was no better as Harper openly broke the rules by going on the radio and actually campaigning while the Polls were actually Open!.
The first 100 days may very well be the most troubling in Canada's long history, or Harperland's short history, if you follow me. And I sure hope you do!
Combine that with his new-found and ill-gotten total control of the Senate (day 15) and his new 39% majority (day 1), the end of Sheila Frazer's tenure as Auditor General, (day 29) just before the Throne Speech, his appointment of a new very and likely more conservative House Speaker, (day 33), his upcoming opportunities for replacement of three of the nine current Chief Justices of the Supreme Court of Harperland, his dismantling of the Human rights Commissions, (a long time goal, already in progress) his planned new powers over the Internet, and his (so called hidden) Agenda will be complete. At that point, it may already be too late. It is ^NOT like there is any way that I can see that Jack Layton can stop him!
Will the International Criminal Court suddenly ask us to extradite Harper in connection with the treatment of Afghan Detainees? Probably not! Is lightning likely to strike him as he lights up the barbecue at 24 Sussex? Not very likely, really. Will 12,000,000 Canadians sign a petition asking he be removed from power? Even a ''Conservative' estimate (and those tend to be unreliable 19 times out of Twenty) would make more than 8,000,000 signatures unlikely. Will the "In and Out" scandal "Rise Up" and take him out in the "Mother of all Administrative Disputes"? Again, not a good bet. Will he suddenly realise that he is a danger to democracy and change his mind? Or realise that he will ^NOT be among the number, come judgement day? I am ^Not convinced.
As fruitless as any of these avenues are likely to be, just listing them is a helpful exercise, as any among us who hold any hope for any of these astronomical improbabilities, has already realised the necessity of stopping his headlong descent into infamy. He can not be allowed to implicate us in that infamy, nor can we stand by and be judged complicit in this affront to all things Canadian.
We are many. We are smart. We are brave. We have information. We have voices. We have each other.
What we do not have is Mainstream Media that can be counted on. What we do not have is Corporate support. What we do not have is a magic spell, potion or wand. But most of all, what we do ^NOT have is Four more years.
An Afterthought: I just opted in at OpenParliament.ca to get news whenever my ( ughh!) Newly elected Conservative MP opens his mouth in Parliament. Straight to my email! In a Majority there really is Nowhere to hide. It has been quite a while since there were protests in my riding, but that may change with a New Con in Town.

So, where does this leave us? Are there other options?'The way he micro-manages things, he's going to micro-manage that, so we’re going to have Cabinet ministers involved in things they shouldn't be involved in." ~ So says NDP MP Joe Comartin on Prime Minister Stephen Harper's addition of a Cabinet Committee on National Security.

Harper to Replace Auditor General ~ Another Piece of the Puzzle?
Sheila Frazer's ten year tenure as auditor General is drawing to a close. Appointed in 2001, she has been a well respected and respectable presence. She raised the initial concerns that led to the Gomry Inquiry and has always been seen as a non-partisan and balancing force in her position. Her job will end on May 30th, 2011.
Harper's majority in the House will give him a free hand to fill the position with a person of his own choosing. Although the end of her term is but three weeks away, not a hint of who that person may be has reached these ears. You will excuse me if I am made nervous by the prospects.
She has already finished writing her final report, which includes chapters on the contentious issue of how the Conservative government spent tax-payer money on the G8 and G20 summits in Ontario last June. It includes, according to leaks, a scathing analysis of the Spending in Tony Clement's riding (known to have been in excess of 50 million dollars) and the origin of those funds.
"The report was supposed to be tabled in Parliament in April but was delayed by the election and won't be released until the Commons is in session in June — after Fraser's departure."
That of course is ^NOT exactly true, as it was really stopped in it's tracks before the Contempt charges were laid. It was a result of NDP MP Christopherson's vote in the committee. This is skirted entirely in the article quoted above, even though Christopherson's opinion on other matters was widely quoted.
“Liberals Want Canadians to See the Auditor General’s Report – but Mr. Layton’s stunt of calling for a meeting with the Auditor General took some nerve after his party blocked the report’s release before Parliament was dissolved,” said Mr. Volpe, Chair of the Public Accounts Committee in the last Parliament.
“If Jack Layton and David Christopherson had their way, voters would never know that the Conservatives spent nearly $50 million on G8 projects with no controls and without Parliament’s approval – and they missed their chance to expose this waste, abuse and contempt before the election by siding with the Conservatives to bury this report.
Two days before the election was called, Mr. Christopherson – the only NDP member of the House of Commons’ Public Accounts Committee – sided with the Conservatives to kill a Liberal motion introduced by Liberal MP Jean-Claude D’Amours calling for the Auditor General’s G8 and G20 reports to be made public in the event of the dissolution of Parliament – even if there was an election.”
As we launch, or rather plummet headlong into this new Harper Majority, keep your eyes open, and let them know that you are not someone to be counted among the somnambulatory majority of Canadians who helped allow this situation to get this far. You should be easily identifyable as part of this group if you woke up Tuesday last and were feeling even a bit satisfied with the election result.
I Worry that Our Prime Minister has ^NOT exactly made a habit of making decisions that could be seen as non-partisan, open and transparent nor has he gained my trust in the Five long years since these appointments have been his to make.
He has appointed a record number of Senators, to a Senate that he promised to make an elected body. He has dabbled in any and all positions that he could turn to his advantage. How much of Canada will remain free from his control? hard to say, but this appointment may very well set the tone.

Remember all of the Contempt, and remember that it is now very likely that none of it will ever be dealt with. Remember the 2006 election, the Prorogations, the still Secret Afghan detainee Documents, the Guergis affair and the Countless other Deep Democratic Concerns.
Remember that Harper is ^NOT Teflon.
Remember that He is Proactive and Preemptive.

The Blog that Broke the Harper Barrier! ~ MY First Text to Video Project!
In this somewhat fictional depiction of our less than great Leader,
he visits the Queen to ask advice, (and also to go over the head of the Governer General as was Suggested by John Baird in early 2009) and she treats him to some clever baiting and a warm yet somehow cold shoulder.
Get used to being treated with Contempt, Mr. Harper, and I can ^NOT wait to see you inducted to Canada's Hall of Shame. This Longer than lifesize video, should assure that you do ^NOT have to wait too too long to become Canada's Next EX Prime Minister.
I hope that you liked this video! t is agood primer for anyone wondering why the Contempt chrge was levelled!

Happy Birthday, Go Away! ~ Stephen Harper!

| So, Which bag is the money in? |
You Can't Budge a Fudge-it
If he wants to Fudge a Budget.
You can't fool with Flatteries,
You can't fool with Flatteries,
A man who runs on Batteries.
It really doesn't matter he
Will say things odd and scattery
And get all pitter pattery,
Yell his name, and scoot away!
In spite of his Mad hattery,
and the fact that he's quite chattery,
He still can't tell a number
from a Rock!
Hopefully, the Big Poll will be held May 2nd.
That's Perfect! That will keep Mr. Harper home in Canada, (Missing a Royal Wedding, ewww Boner!) for his whateverith? birthday on Saturday the 30th of April while he sweats out a looming Monday election after a very difficult campaign in which he was pitted against a man with a beautiful mind and a better, smarter plan.
What is Contempt? Well, that nice Mr. Harper never even stopped in the Foyer to talk to any of us lowly citizens after the budget. He doesn't care enough about any of us to deign to ever seem like he is one of us, so I have no vested interest in his Birthday.
I just don't want him around to "MC" the Big gig on July the First! That is every Canadian's Birthday!

Bring it on!
Jim Flaherty, As I type this: (loudly at a podium in the Foyer of the House of Commons) to Peter Mansbridge: "No one has said to me that they want an election" I guess Jim never opens his mail or his inbox. He is spreading the fear very thickly, Insecurity, Fragile, ... He is saying protect, certainty and stability....." I've Heard all of that, before.
Mr. Flaherty it is too late. If you lose the helm,
we will all get to see the actual Numbers.
And like I said above buddy,
You have a lot to learn about Numbers.
Now, Let's have a look at those books.
Now, Let's have a look at those books.

Fight Ice with Fire, Fight Contempt with Contempt!

Fire and Ice ~ Robert Frost
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
<><><><><><><><><><><>
Some say the Harper Government will end in Fire, Some say it will end in Ice. Personally, so far, My Money is on Contempt!
The House Committee looking into the Speaker's recent rulings, to which Harper responded contemptuously by saying "YA Win Some Ya Lose Some" is scheduled to report back to the House, on Monday, March 21st at or before 6:00 PM. EDT. At the time I am writing this, that is this evening! It rather auspiciously just happens at the very end of the first full day of Spring! What better time for such a monumental decision? It is the very point in the year where it is finally becomes evident that Ice must by it's nature, give way to Fire!
If the Committee decides to deliver a finding of Contempt against an entire Political Party, it will be the first such decision in the "Westminster" Parliamentary Democratic Model's long history of Democracy. This falls just short, in my mind, of Treason. And it will be forever on Harper's Record that he does not respect Democracy, the Dominion of Canada or it's 33 Million residents.
A finding of Contempt goes beyond Non-Confidence, it is a statement that goes beyond simple doubt about the functioning of the self proclaimed "Harper Government" and places the label of Dysfunctional indelibly on the back of a Prime minister who has stepped well beyond the bounds of job description. In that sense it is actually Democracy that is being held in Contempt by the elusive "Harper Government". he is in contempt of Canada.
So, is this about the budget? I say it no longer really can be. Because if as I saw while watching the House Committee, No one can dare to trust this Government any longer to tell us the real figures within that budget. It will be impossible to support!
The last Budget did not contain a mind boggling $125,000,000.oo for advertising, but that is what it appears they have spent in the last year. And most of that was spent for partisan propaganda. That is a lot of Money and reminds one that this is the same Government that now stands accused of Cheating during the 2006 election. That should also clearly show their complete lack of ethics and show no sign of even the slightest remorse for their chronic habit of Contempt!
So, will it be the slow burn of Economic Incompetence or the Cold Shoulder of Contempt that finally gets Canadians engaged in the election process? Again, my money is on Contempt.
The budget does not matter to me any more, as the Committee, in my opinion, will be deciding the fate of the dismal government of Stephen Joseph Harper.
A Formal finding of Contempt is worth a Billion words, and that is a thousand thousand Pictures. Here are a rather large number of them.
The hearings lasted three days. They were quite educational and quite revealing. It was easy from the outset to see that the Conservatives had come Only to disrupt this Committee.

Their actions at the Hearings can only be seen as contemptible. It was ^NOT a very clever showing, especially as it is their constant tendency to act with Contempt for all others, that was the subject of the Committee hearings.
" Tories' dirty little tricks:
Outraged opposition MPs called on the government yesterday to make public a secret guide book it distributed to Conservative committee chairmen which counsels them on how to cherrypick witnesses favourable to the Conservative Party and disrupt committees that want to study subjects that don't suit the government. " By The Gazette (Montreal) May 19, 2007
It kinda takes the "Right Honourable" title away from any and all in the Conservative caucus. I can ^NOT imagine letting them run this country any longer. Can you?
It has always been seen as fair play to fight Contempt with Contempt. Now it is the will of the Highest Authority in the Nation. It is now our duty as a Democratic Society to distance ourselves from this dismal Government. We need to go to the polls!

Oh, and just for the record:
They do not have to check in with the still pending decision on Oda's little affair until the 25th. Hopefully, it will all be anti-climactic by then!
FIGHT CONTEMPT WITH CONTEMPT!
Now, Run and tell your Mother! If she is anything at all like my Mother,
She will ^NOT likely allow herself to be held in Contempt!
This just in: Harper on Integrity, 2004.

What is the Meaning of "Small Dead Animals"?
What is the meaning of "Small Dead Animals"?
Is it a cruel joke? It is cruel but no joke!
Is it written by sadists? Possibly!
Animal Lovers? Not bloody likely!
By tiny lifeless rodents? That may be close.
If this screen shot below is an indication of the content, it is more or less a Sheep fest. It is also a very popular right wing Blog. It is normally a chance for spewing their drivel unchallenged. Apparently that is not the case tonight! I have had enough of them and their small 'L' leader!
It is important to brave those cold waters once in a while and take the C.R.A.P. that will inevitably be flung in order to see just exactly how they go about doing what it is that they do best. And What is that?
Apparently it is Blindly following the rantings of a leader who would like to be the leader of the only political party left standing in Canadian Politics! It is strange and eerily Stalinesque but it is certainly not the first time there has been evidence of such a cult among his followers. I mean just try and engage any of them in a discussion that is about the facts or the figures involved in any given topic.
"Small Dead Animals" is also a place where one can quote; Ezra Levant, Karl Rove, Tom Flanagan, Ann Coulter, Charles McVety, Glenn Beck, Kory Teneycke, Sarah Palin, Bill O'Reilly, George Dubya Bush, Ronald Reagan, and a host of other equally delusional Mental Midgets with impunity and apparently without feeling an overwhelming need to Spit, as I feel a sudden urge to do now! . . . . . Pttuuie!
Stephen Harper has finally decided that it is time to push our buttons. He says he does not want an election. He is Lying! He says he believes in Democracy. He is Lying! He says he believes in Parliament. He is Lying!
He does not think that the Government of Canada has any moral obligation to set aside a measly $1.98 per vote for the party receiving that vote. Remember the last time this happened? It was after the breaking of the Fixed election law (in Sept. of 2008) that he had used to get himself elected in 2006. Actually there was also the matter of the short lived Coalition with the NDP not that you will find that on Small Dead Animals.
At any rate the threat of dropping the subsidies and forever tilting the playing field in favor of Harper and his silent big business partners in late 2008 ultimately lead to the hasty formation of a proposed coalition between the Liberals under Stephane Dion and the NDP led by Jack Layton, which still needed the co-operation of Gilles Duceppe and the Bloc Quebecois. If they had not tipped their hand (quite inexplicably in my opinion) they would have defeated The Government in a scheduled vote of Non-Confidence and gone on to implement that Coalition. I have no idea why they showed their hand. I am quite sure they would do it differently if they had it to do over again!
And this time around they will (if he can be believed) get no argument from the NEW Governor General who very recently had this to say: "Nothing Wrong with Coalition Governments ~ Governor General"
So, I give you a peek into the world of the "tiny lifeless creatures" who support this Vacuous Dolt!

As you can plainly see, I am not hard to find, but I will not publish Anonymous comments on this Blog as I often do on others. Sorry CONS I am going to have to have some Real Names.
I will update this Blog by replacing the Screen-Shot when I see relevent added comments. Of course If my comment on there is deleted, I will not be doing that!
All's fair in Love and War, and as Far as I am Concerned, Stephen Harper Has Just Declared War on Democracy!
Small Dead Animals discusses Party subsidies complete with comments here, and on this thread you see how they react to media and others calling for less violent rhetoric and the innapropriate use of Guns as political metaphor.

Narcissus, Thy Name is Stephen Harper
![]() |
| .Prima Donna ~ Lena Sotskova, artist |
Our Prime Minister is a Prima Donna. Not in the Classical sense, I suppose, but a Prima Donna none the less. Vanity may not be his only fault, but it certainly is very near the top of that very long list of qualities that make him such a questionable leader. Narcissus has nothing on our Mr. Harper. From his labour intensive hair to his 'oh so soft' hands, He is no more the image of a leader than he is a leader. He is a man of illusions, and not a man of real substance.
To illustrate this I want to examine his fascination with his own image, and his oddly delusional belief that his image is dear to all Canadians and that it fills us with pride.
I am not sure where to start here, as there are so many examples of Harper offering form where substance was required.

| Waving to the crowd totally oblivious to the amount of coverage that it was going to get, and that it still gets more than 5 years later. |

| "They are gonna love this!" |
I know! Let's start with the fantasy that he shared with us back in 2005 when, while in Calgary at the Stampede, he quite sadly donned a far too tight-fitting leather cowboy outfit and had his picture taken as he posed seemingly comfortably in the style of a 1920s silent film star.
That really is the only way I can describe it, but it continues to gain attention some five years later. The latest version (there surely will be more to come, I am quite sure) was published yet again just yesterday by a very good friend of mine on the quickly growing and very educational Canadians Rallying to Unseat Stephen Harper Facebook page. The ill conceived picture was, and remains, a source of great embarrassment to the PMO. It also remains deliciously hilarious.
And then there was the famous Powder Blue Sweater-vest. I won't dwell on it though, Just this short blog that was easy to find as most of us are already familiar with the effect it had on Canadians. Literally hundreds of stories have been written about it but it would be hard to say that any have been quite so poignantly and sincerely appreciative of it's glory than Canada's own Marg Delahunty.
Lets move on to the Harper Photo Gallery within the confines of the House of Commons. Unbelievable as it sounds, Stephen Harper has filled the exclusive government lobby of the House of Commons with an amazing number of portraits of himself. Of course the public is not actually invited. No one gets to bask in the glow of the portraits of "such an important man" as Mr. Harper without a Conservative party membership, enough security clearance and a keen sense of the absurd.
I have often felt that I would love to know how those few lucky people who do get to see them, actually feel about the unusual experience.
Luckily, back in early 2008, a couple of unlikely Canadians got to see these amazing images of the Cult of Stephen Harper, when Green party leader Elizabeth May and then Macleans.ca blogger Kady O'Malley got to play tourists in the presence of this shrine of our very own Narcissus. They shared their impressions on line:
" Elizabeth May and Kady O'Malley were surprised and a bit speechless when they saw the exhibit recently as guest Commons Speakers during a youth Parliament.<> "When you walk in the door, all you see are pictures of Stephen Harper," said Ms. May. "I'd say between every window, in every available space of the wall, at eye level, every available space has a photo of Stephen Harper."
"You've got photos of Stephen Harper, but not of previous prime ministers," she added. "Photos of Stephen Harper in different costumes, in different settings, dressed as a fireman, in Hudson Bay looking for polar bears, meeting the Dalai Lama, even the portrait of the Queen had to have Stephen Harper, but in a candid, behind her."

| Harper Chastises Americans for saying that the Economy was in danger. This is his famous "Recession? What Recession? Moment |
Moving 'Right' along, I want to share with you what I consider Stephen Harper's finest Moment in the "Imaginary Harper" game.
It also contributed a photograph that I consider a milestone and a highpoint in his quest for the perfect image of a perfect Leader. This photograph presents the image of a confident, trustworthy, accomplished, man with superior knowledge of Economics and his hand firmly upon the rudder that controls that Economy.

This photograph presents the image of a confident, trustworthy, accomplished, man with superior knowledge of Economics and his hand firmly upon the rudder that controls that Economy.
And that Perfect Image, in my opinion, was clearly achieved the night, just before the 2008 election, when he Chastised Americans for even suggesting that Canada's economy was at risk. A claim, by the way that his Opponent, Stephan Dion was supporting.
But of course, as more of us are coming to realise, the Masterful Image of a Confident Stephen Harper assuring us that there would be no Global meltdown in the Economy in the face of all the then mounting evidence to the Contrary, was an illusion. It was in fact a Lie in the Order of "Weapons of Mass Destruction" ( a lie he also upheld by the way.)
He is an Illusionist of Considerable skill, but sadly, Just an Illusion.
It has come to my attention that to this day Stephen Harper insists that his Cult of Personality is alive and well and living in Canada within the Hearts and minds of many. The best illustration of Harper's clinging to this illusion, or delusion that he is beloved by many, as it were, is that he is in the habit of mailing out unsolicited 8 x 10 Glossy 'Autographed' photographs of himself (suitable for hanging) to some of those who contribute to his parties coffers. I can only imagine the joy that must accompany such a wonderful gift lol.

So, if you read all of this and are still interested, let me know how you feel about Stephen Harper and what you would do with a Photograph of him! I will try to get back to those of you who do have an opinion.
I started a discussion that you can still join on the C.R.U.S.H. SITE @ this address.
Personally, like the Cowboy outfit, the Blue sweater vest, the fact that he feels that a Museum to his image is what is needed within the Halls of the House of Commons, I find Stephen Harper's Attempts at establishing a Culture of Personality hilarious beyond belief.
