Harper Knows His Base ~ And So Do We
I have been writing on the internet as the Twain Shall Meet for about seven years now. For the first two years I was only on the discussion boards at MSM web pages, and commenting on News articles.
And I have gleaned a fact or two about the conservative base. I don't claim to have ever made any of them less conservative. It seems that that has never been an option. Though I have had countless interactions with the far Right, I don't believe we can change them. Intransigent as they are we can still defeat them and their right wing ideologies, we simply have got to out number them, not on the discussion sites, but at the polls on election day.
When dealing with the far right I have tried to offer links to information that sheds light on the subject and hand. They don't read them.
This was a comment from a CPC supporter on CBC.ca ~ The article was discussing whether harper would prorogue Paliament to hide from the Senate ?PMO scandal.

at 6:04 PM ETOf course they'll recess early. The union-loving NDP think all people need the summer off and the Liberals need a break too to stew about electing the Papineau Pony to run their ship into the ground.
Sometimes I ask questions of them that require them doing research. They generally do not do that research and the questions go unanswered.

at 8:01 PM ETeveryone here thumbs ProudAB down but, he is, of course, right. Harper has to take the hit but it is the front line civil servant that has dropped the ball along with their less than satisfactory managers that as yet have not instilled the importance of securing their computers and flash drives.
As well, you all hate Harper so much and I find it odd yop don't realize that the civil servants do as well. They do not cooperate with the government of the day if they don't like them and they slow down productivity, lost things or misplace them etc. Meanwhile, because they can't be fired without an act of Parliament short of them committing murder, their managers' hands are tied.
Sometimes I notice them trying to turn the channel. Now, who does that remind you of, eh?

I Am Worried for Vic Toews ~ He Really Needs a Rest!
![]() |
| Just keep on a Readin' Varmit! There is a Test at the End. ~ A Con-Test |
Vic Toews is quickly becoming someone that those of us who are already openly opposed to Stephen Harper's Government look to every day and find for yet another reason to stop the insanity that is Harper Land. Vic, as a leader of men is a failed experiment to say the least. He is ill cast to carry the burden of the role of Sheriff of Harper Land. Like Yosemite Sam here, he lacks the wits or the temperament needed to be successful as our protector.
Things are always odd in Harper Land to say the very least, and it is obvious to those of us who are really paying attention that the Treasury board Chairman is a threat to the Treasury, the Minister of the Environment is a threat to the Environment, the Minister in charge of Immigration is a threat to our Department of Immigration, etc. In fact it is painfully obvious that in Harper Land, any minister currently in Charge of any and all departments is counter productive and this amateurish and indolent government are failing miserably to manage any of them. So, how you holding up, eh?

So, how you holding up, eh?
Let's Start with This: Vic Toews just last week, blithely reported to the members of the House of Commons that he had already advised the Canadian Security and Intelligence Services (CSIS) that it will be OK in the future to use information that has been gathered through the imposition of torture. And this is just a start!

And Today, (Feb 14th) It Got Even Worse.
OTTAWA ~ The government says anyone who opposes federal plans to make electronic surveillance easier for police and spies is siding with child pornographers.
It’s the first salvo in a battle that will resume Tuesday when the government reintroduces legislation that would expand online monitoring powers.
The issue pits the desire of intelligence and law-enforcement officials to have easier access to information about Internet users against the individual’s right to privacy.
Asked Monday in the House of Commons about the coming bill, Public Safety Minister Vic Toews told a Liberal MP he could either "Stand with the Government or Stand with the Child Pornographers"
Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart has warned against simply resurrecting a trio of previous federal bills to expand surveillance powers, citing several shortcomings.
Of particular concern to the privacy commissioner are provisions that would allow authorities access to Internet subscriber information without first getting a court’s go-ahead.
Toews’ office has assured that the government will strike a suitable and appropriate balance between the necessary investigative powers and the protection of privacy. Personally I am not sure that I imagine that really happening. And certainly not with the outspoken and intellectually over-matched Teows calling the shots.
Opposition MPs were Alarmed by his Inane Comments.
“Apparently if you care about civil liberties in this country you obviously side with child pornographers, murderers. You’re the worst form of scum if you believe the charter’s an important instrument for the rule of law in this country. I'm horrified by this kind of rhetoric. It demeans us all.” ~ Elizabeth May.
"Stupid" was the word that Bob Rae used to describe the Statement and the Minister. I will provide a link as soon as I inherit a secretary. Lol!
Ahhh, here is something.
Note that Bob Rae is only referring to 'Hitler' because it had come up in the HOC just a day before when one of the the Cons inappropriately and absurdly compared a statement by former Liberal MP, Allan Rock with Adolf Hitler.

This is not new, but it illustrates his

UPDATE: Harper Government Drops Environmental Ball Again! <>JOE OLIVER CREATES 200,000 More RADICALS<>
NOW ON ALL CHANNELS!
Oliver's comments come one day before federal regulatory hearings begin on whether to approve Enbridge's Northern Gateway pipeline, to deliver crude from Alberta's oil sands to Kitimat, B.C., for shipment to Asia. ~ More than 4,300 people have signed up to address the proposed pipeline over the next 18 months.
"Unfortunately, there are environmental and other radical groups that would seek to block this opportunity to diversify our trade," Oliver said in an open letter. "Their goal is to stop any major project no matter what the cost to Canadian families in lost jobs and economic growth. No forestry. No mining. No oil. No gas. No more hydro-electric dams."
Oliver says the groups "threaten to hijack our regulatory system to achieve their radical ideological agenda," stack the hearings with people to delay or kill "good projects," attract "jet-setting" celebrities and use funding from "foreign special interest groups."

Windsor Live @Twain ~ Here's something for ya to ponder as you work the blog.
"Why does the Harper Government feel it is OK to intervene in the affairs of other nations such as dictating economic policy and austerity measures that would affect millions of Europeans and bombing Libya to assassinate the head of state resulting in major civilian casualties in the thousands? Not to mention the additional economic sanctions against Syria and the economic sanctions against Iran to impose regime change.
PLUS his recent threat directed towards the US Administration that said the Harper Regime would gladly "sell" their tar sand oil to China if the US didn't want it..."
Twain @Windsor Live: ~ Well, Windsor Live, as a reasonable man who loves Canada, I'd have to say that he has a double standard, among other issues. He does dabble in everything and then cry like a whiny school-yard bully when someone not in Canada tries to influence our environmental outcomes.
As a Radical, I would add that: He Is Clearly Insane!

Oil Sands Pipeline Battle Turns Ugly
In an open letter defending a controversial project, Canada's natural resources minister accuses a pipeline's opponents of colluding with 'radicals' and 'jet-setting celebrities'

"Canada (*meaning the Harper Government) let loose an extraordinary rant against opponents of a controversial project to pump tar sands crude to Pacific Coast ports on Monday, accusing campaigners of colluding with foreign "radicals" and "jet-setting celebrities" to hijack the government.
The diatribe, which came as an open letter from the natural resources minister Joe Oliver, caused a furore in Canada.
It was seen as a sign of the conservative government's frustration at growing opposition to its efforts to find global markets for its vast reserves of tar sands crude, a type of petroleum deposit found in large quantities in Canada.
Opponents of the project object to over-turning a decades-old moratorium on oil tanker traffic on the British Columbia coastline, running a pipeline through British Columbia's northern wilderness, and sending jobs out of the country".

Bob Rae Slams PM for Discrediting Critics
Intimidating opponents by calling them radicals, anti-Canadian, interferes with environmental process, he says:
"I think it is inappropriate for a minister or a prime minister to interfere and intervene and frankly to intimidate an environmental process as it would be to interfere or intervene in a court case," Rae told reporters at a news conference to announce that rookie Quebec MP Lise St-Denis has jumped from the New Democratic Party to the Liberals.
The Harper government, according to Rae, doesn't understand the limits of its authority and "does not understand the rule of law. It does not respect due process."
“New Democrats believe there is a very different way forward for Canada. We believe all major energy projects should be subject to proper benefit/cost analysis. For example, the oil sands are one of our most precious resources. We should not rush to development just to ship unrefined crude oil to China when Canadians import over 200,000 barrels per day of oil from Europe and the Middle-East. Instead we should focus on our own energy security, making sure we maximize national revenues by refining the oil we need within our own borders.
Perhaps more importantly, we believe government should use deeply participatory processes to build national plans for housing, transportation, employment, energy and other essential policy areas. These processes should be the antithesis of the top-down, back-room deals made by the Conservatives. They would also ensure we move forward together as a country and policy benefits the many rather than the few.”

60 Environment Canada Scientists and other Researchers Given their Notice
OTTAWA citizen — Environment Canada is sending notices to 60 scientists and other researchers
that their jobs are being declared surplus.
"Gary Corbett, president of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, confirmed his union was notified by the department that surplus notices would be going out this week. They are fallout from the department's announcement last August that it would be cutting or reassigning 776 people — which is about 10 per cent of the workforce.
But Corbett said the department is under "strict orders" not to reveal precisely what work these surplus scientists are doing. They broadly include engineers, scientists, biologists, climatologists, chemical analysts from across the country. They work in areas such as pollution, monitoring water quality, climate research.
"This exercise is all about money and a government obsessed with the bottom line," said Corbett: "While the government pays lip service to protecting the interests of all Canadians, it continues to target science-based departments, the front line, when it comes to protecting our environment and health of our citizens," he said. Elizabeth May To Joe Oliver

Dear Joe,
Your letter caught my attention. I respect you and like you a lot as a colleague in the House. Unfortunately, I think your role as Minister of Natural Resources has been hijacked by the PMO spin machine. The PMO is, in turn, hijacked by the foreign oil lobby. You are, as Minister of Natural Resources, in a decision-making, judge-like role. You should not have signed such a hyperbolic rant.
I have reproduced a short section of your letter. The idea that First Nations, conservation groups, and individuals opposed to the Northern Gateway pipeline are opposed to all forestry, mining, hydro-electric and gas is not supported by the facts. I am one of those opposed to the Northern Gateway pipeline. I do not oppose all development; neither does the Green Party; neither do environmental NGOS; neither do First Nations.
The Government clearly needs to realise that it is their duty as the Government of this country to stay neutral during any environmental assessments. They seem to be on the verge of taking, by what seems a lot of force, in my opinion, control of the entire process and openly lobby for the Oil industry at the same time. It seem that if left up to them, Canada’s Natural resources are to be doled out to their friends as Soon as Possible. It is enough to make me question the motive behind this zealous pursuit of Petro Dollars. It is almost as if they realise that they need to sell the damned stuff before it is obsolete. That is after all, their plan for Asbestos.
Good Government takes it’s time and gets it right! Good government would not have all of its ministers lobbying so openly and arrogantly for this project. It is Not supposed to be a Government project. It is supposedly a private sector affair. The Government’s only interest here has to be our interest. It has to be getting this Right!

And it is no secret that I want No one to pipe oil across the Rockies, not now, not ever.
I have less hope that the Athabasca Tar Sands itself will stop being exploited. Although I do believe that it too can be stopped, but certainly not right away. I like the Liberals approach, in that conserving it by not simply extracting it all in a greedy frenzy is the pragmatic alternative. They want to spread its lifeline out and slow it down to a controllable level of development. They actually had a Department called the Ministry of the Environment that was concerned about such things. The NDP wants it (generally) shut down entirely. Although they have weighed in (farther down the page) and in this instance they are also on the progressive track.
I like the slow approach. With that in place, we will necessarily have no choice but to get out of the habit of using the stuff. As we develop new technologies and get them in place, we should soon need less of it, we could more easily see a time when we could stop it. We need to learn to profit along the way from the new developments instead of constantly fighting
with our own citizens just to make a few men rich.
They insist that time is short, but anyone on the street can tell you that Slowing it down and prudent conservation requires NOT cutting another destructive path through the Rockies in order to fire up a lot of Chinese cars.

The Rockies are one of the youngest Mountain Ranges on the planet. They have a long way to fall. They never stop moving. Do these guys not watch The Nature of Things?
The Conservative plan is Clearly insane. There is never anything pragmatic about a rising fascist star like Stephen Harper. Why burn all the oil? Because he is a nutter.

If Only the Canadian MSM could actually speak. <> Milewski Schools Harper
In a Blog the Other Day, (three blogs down) I mentioned that Stephen Harper's crew did not think much of Terry Milewski's Report on "Tough on Crime" Agenda being abandoned by Texas. They said in the House on several occasions that it was Mis-information. Would it Not be nice if Milewski fought back? IT might have gone something like this!

Another Neanderthal NeoCon is Outed by his Own Idiocy!
This Obnoxious Video first appeared on the Web site of Saskatchewan Conservative David Anderson. It is typical of the Neo-CON mind. It is insidious, manipulative and even goes so far as to repeat the phrase "You are talking Eskimo" over and over again. That is already being accused of being a racist term and there have been demands to take the video down. See the Huffington Post's article.
At any rate, it goes to great and clumsy lengths to prove to his constituents and all Canadians that the Wheat Board is worthy of Our Contempt. I have other ideas and in this case my contempt is aimed at the Conservative MP and the Ideologues that he bends over backwards to please.
The use of racist words meant to transfer hatred to a third party is an odd and baffling modus operandi. To blame the Canadian Wheat board for this video, or any of the hectic nonsense that it contains, is to fall for this lame attempt at text to voice video.
To make matters worse one must consider that this video was made by or on behalf of one of Harper's hand picked Parliamentary Secretaries, and first appeared on his website. It may still be there! I am looking for a link! Conservative MP, David Anderson is the parliamentary secretary responsible for the Canadian Wheat Board.
This video is available on Youtube and should stay there, but I can't seem to make a copy of my own, so it may be unavailable if deleted (I hope it stays on Youtube so we can make fun of it), but it should be removed fron this idiot's taxpayer-funded Website.
If you have a copy let me know! Lol!
NOTE: After a bit of hunting around I was able to overcome the problem and If and When this disappears from that CPC controlled Youtube page, it can still be found for all the World to see, in it's new form here: http://youtu.be/snk8WqwFjPI
It really doesn't seem fair!

Harper Looks Prime Miserable to Me! ~ He is our Prime Misery!
Debating the Debate
As Long as the Main Stream Media Believes
The Debate is still a recent event, and it will be getting a Good going over today and for the rest of the Campaign period. As I watch the hapless and incredibly Conservative Evan Solomon, I am reminded of how much Power is in the hands of the Media here in Canada.
So Far they seem to be Mindlessly Bobbling their way through. Bobble Heads are Not Great media. They are in a very real sense among the elitists in this Country, they have things to defend and they will protect their turf. With the exceptions of the veterans; Robert Fife, and Terry Milewski, for instance, I feel that they come off as much less than sincere.
They are quite easy on the Prime Miserable in My Opinion. Do they ever ask (themselves) why everyone is picking on Harper? No, they just say he is... holding up well. They are also saying over and over, that he looked Directly into the Camera. He looked weird to me, and he was Not actually looking into the camera. He was focused at a point just to his Right of the lens. Very Odd indeed. A more reasonable observation would have been to point out his failure to look his opponents in the eye. That is after-all what got us to this point in time. The MSM's myopia reminds me of Bob Cole, who would benefit from a more careful look at the replays, instead of repeating his original missed call.
Hell, were they expecting him to be nervous, or contrite, or reactive, during all of those well deserved criticisms? By what mechanism? He has No Conscience. He is convinced that Supporting Exxon over Canadian citizens is the right thing to do. He is the Immovable Object. I thought he looked anal, and emasculate. He 'pretends' that he is the Victim here and they in the MSM do NOT tell us the Difference. I am still waiting for an apology from Mr. Harper. Instead what we get is a complete denial of the charges. It is interesting that the defendant, now found guilty is now framing it as him having been framed and that it was atrivial Bickering. Enter the Bobble-heads to nod away and agree that it really was nothing. Apparently Contempt is acceptable to a surprising number of Canadians. I feel very differently on the subject as you already know.
I am Not impressed! I thought Harper was evasive, smarmy, misguided and robotic. I wouldn't trust him to feed my Cat!
At Least He Looked Prime Miserable!
If Any of you 'PMO' Types are looking at this and I somehow doubt you are. I need to know if this is Jenni Byrne. It was sent to me and it is supposed to come from Jenni's facebook Profile.
Apparently She is NOT a very nice human being. If you do NOT know who she is, She is in charge of Harper's re-election Campaign, and is Noted as a problem-child, just like her boss!
Now we need to Figure out How to Get this Mean Genie back in the Bottle, or more accurately this strange Blue Goo back into the tube. A lot of people who are as hated as Harper would just crawl back in and Go away.
As Long as the Main Stream Media Believes
That Harper Owns the Economy We are Screwed!

In the entire two hours of the debate Harper stared at a spot on the floor somewhere near Duceppe's feet and never looked into the Camera. The Main Stream Media came out saying that Harper held his own during this debate. I didn't see it that way. But since I consider him a Child, I will tell you how other kids saw it!
Ignatieff’s impassioned plea for the role of the federal government in supporting equal access to health care across Canada was his strongest point, the three said.
“He had the most consistent message,” Kristen Pue said, adding he also backed up his statements with more examples than the other leaders.
He looked relaxed, and when taking questions from Canadians he answered directly and remembered the questioner’s name, said Sheida Kayat, who judges debates for the University of Alberta Debate Society, the oldest club on campus.
"Nearly 300 participants in the live chat were asked at the beginning who they thought would debate the best, and Harper won out with 38 per cent expecting good things from him.
But by the end of the debate, opinion turned against him. When asked who won the debate, 44 per cent of those on the live
chat voted for Ignatieff. Layton got 41 per cent while 15 per cent thought Harper won the debate. No one voted for Duceppe."

For more information on Helping to Un-Seat the Cheat, Read on Down this page, or visit C.R.U.S.H. on Facebook.
Now we need to Figure out How to Get this Mean Genie back in the Bottle, or more accurately this strange Blue Goo back into the tube. A lot of people who are as hated as Harper would just crawl back in and Go away. Mr. Harper is ^NOT the type to do that. He will need to go down in flames in order to get the point. He does ^NOT seem to understand that he is being held in Contempt by so very many of us.
On May 2nd
Vote for DEMOCRACY
^NOT Contempt!
This Just IN:
This is a very odd way to advertise Compassion, and is in very bad taste for the facebook page of a 26 year old running a national Election campaign. Oh, that's Right, Ethics, Compassion, Empathy, public good, the suffering of others, is^NOT on the Conservatives 'Radar'.
Sadly, If you are reading my Blog, YOU probably Are!

"The Harper Photo Opportunity Dilema" or "Men, Both Dim & Dimmer"
First Things First ~ This Blog is ^NOT About Science! It is about a Governement so bent on self promtion that they keep getting it wrong. This is but one sad chapter in their story. Let's start with some background.
This set up for a photo opportunity may look familiar to some of you as this is standard procedure for any right wing Government worth it's Rovian label. The little people as they are called can generally be counted on to stand in the glare of television lights for quite a long time without incident. That is not always the case:
This video is from September 2010 and shows how concerned a man Harper can be when youth are at stake.
What a trooper that Harper is. He hesitates, looks back only after being told some several seconds later that a child has fainted and without so much as an ""Are you OK?", drinks his water and starts right back into his Boring and Somnambulatory monotone.
When this man speaks he just does not seem to be aware of anything around him, and why would he? In his mind, he is the very Center of Canadian Existence. He is, after all Stephen Harper. Besides, he has to concentrate as he is usually reading his responses, often from a very sophisticated computerized teleprompter.
That not withstanding, he took a lot of heat for this first inciden, mostly in the social media but was not able to spin it successfully in the Main Stream Media and the video was viewed many thousands of times. He made no apology about it at all. He is just too busy a man to be worried about some kid. But that was then and this is now!
Again last week, his handlers rounded up some school kids to serve as human props while he spoke. This time at St. Ignatius of Loyola, a Catholic School in Guelph. And again, no water for the props, just water for the propagandist. (A short mainstream media version)
Here is a much poorer BUT FUNNIER amateur version which goes on a lot longer and seems to have vastly amused the cameraman. He and a friend can be heard roaring with laughter, at first at the fainter, but soon it becomes apparent that his laughter is due to Harper's automatonic continuance of the speech which of course he was droning out in his famous subdued style.
It, I guess, was shot from a monitor, and that is a good thing because I can not seem to find that longer version anywhere, only the shorter edited version. If he had shot it live he would never have managed to get past Harper's highly efficient small army of handlers! Lucky for us he took the time to capture the longer shot or we would not know just how long this man can fail to know what goes on around him.
So, what do you do after such a huge failure to seem quite human in front of the world? Enter Dimitri Soudas, Harper's PMO twittering spokesperson. Although details of the timing of this are not yet available to me, I am looking for information that would shed some light on what exactly happened in the time between the end of the speech and the taking of picture that he released on Twitter. At any rate Dimitri Tweeted a picture of Mr. Harper and the child who had fainted lying side by side on the floor, Harper looking every bit like a father and mentor. Or at least that is, I think, Dimitri's spin on the story. Frankly I just find it sad that they would go to such lengths to disprove Harper's obvious lack of normal human connectedness.
Dimitri's Tweet: Complete with Right Wing Spin:

The link leads here and you can comment on the picture of our PM laying on a floor next to a student. Oddly Dimitri used the word 'lies'.A fraudian slip? It depends on whether you believe that this was done to sooth the child, or to cover Harper's absolute failure to see past his own nose.

Oh, come on, one of the commenter asked when their would be a caption Contest! I thought a short story might be in order!
Still faint from the shock, the Prime minister was lead away repeatedly muttering to himself: "But I was sure it read St. Ignatieff!"
Apparently it had triggered in the overworked mind of Mr. Harper, memories of a recurring nightmare that he has been having since he was a mail room clerk 2nd class, for Imperial Oil in Calgary, the one job that he is still considered adept at. It consisted of delivering weekly huge paychecks to Imperial Oil Executives, an activity that he still considers a hobby.
It is well documented that Mr' Harper has always held chronic delusions about his primary Opponent for years and still insists on telling his distorted views of Mr. Ignatieff. He has even gone so far as to divert Millions upon Millions of taxpayers dollars to purchase advertising on a continental scale to tell repeated lies about Mr. Ignatieff's origin, his experience, and his motives.
The boy, it turns out, was fine, having fainted after having to pretend to listen to a longer than necessary speech by the minority leader, while standing under huge lights, knowing that he was going to be seen all across Canada. That is a lot of pressure on the average teen-aged boy. This is not his fault, he is just a victim of the relentless need for propaganda to drive the Harper Myth. As usual only the prime minister gets water during these speeches, and this is not the first time that this has happened to one of Mr. Harper's young human props. It is time to stop this practice.
No such assurances have been made about the Condition of the Prime Minister. However he is still understandably, under observation.

The Story of his diving in to comfort this child follows almost exactly the now famous plot-line of last summer's odd political theatre involving Tony Clement. Tony tweeted about the big rescue that he arrived late to, because he stupidly took the long way there, and even though it was not him who saved the mysterious woman, made himself out to be a hero!
Having this picture out over the net, knowing that that huge machine is getting it out to their base means that we have to get it out to ours as well.
Oh well carry on, eh?

What bothers me most about the story is that it is supremely superficial. Harper's huge Party Machine spends massive amounts of his flock's huge fortune on these events. I guess they have a contingency plan for the inevitable fainting. They handled the last one so poorly, and they now know that 14 year olds cannot stand long in stage lights lights and listen to dull men talk, so they have a plan which is the real plan, in essence. "The Hero Photo Opportunity". Enter Dimitri Soudas to get the word and the spin, out to the masses.
Clockwork Strange and the Wizard of Odd!
I am adding a video that was sent along by a commenter below, Nadine Lumley, who shares a growing distaste for the Current vacuous dolt at the Helm. Here, he disappoints a whole town and leaves a child crying! Stephen Harper ~ Blowing through a Town Near You!
("Get Over it kid, he is ^NOT such a great man")
It is quoted widely that his security bill is something like $47,000,000.oo a year. We know that because it is our money, although he makes getting this information difficult. Some of his huge entourage are paid by the party. That means that wherever he goes, with this huge entourage, properly trained medics and such are bound to be available. There was no need for Harper to intervene.
We, as private citizens, end up having to compete with these huge amounts of cash that Harper's little gig as minority leader generates. I can imagine the elderly who have seen this 'Oh, so Cute Picture' opening up their chequebooks, even as I type this! That is why we need to work so hard to counter the spin from the most powerful and deceptive Prime Minister's Offices this country has ever seen.
Oh well carry on, eh?
