Harper Knows His Base ~ And So Do We

I have been writing on the internet as the Twain Shall Meet for about seven years now. For the first two years I was only on the discussion boards at MSM web pages, and commenting on News articles.

And I have gleaned a fact or two about the conservative base. I don't claim to have ever made any of them less conservative. It seems that that has never been an option. Though I have had countless interactions with the far Right, I don't believe we can change them. Intransigent as they are we can still defeat them and their right wing ideologies, we simply have got to out number them, not on the discussion sites, but at the polls on election day.

When dealing with the far right I have tried to offer links to information that sheds light on the subject and hand. They don't read them.

This was a comment from a CPC supporter on CBC.ca ~ The article was discussing whether harper would prorogue Paliament to hide from the Senate ?PMO scandal.

Of course they'll recess early. The union-loving NDP think all people need the summer off and the Liberals need a break too to stew about electing the Papineau Pony to run their ship into the ground.

Sometimes I ask questions
of them that require them doing research. They generally do not do that research and the questions go unanswered.

everyone here thumbs ProudAB down but, he is, of course, right. Harper has to take the hit but it is the front line civil servant that has dropped the ball along with their less than satisfactory managers that as yet have not instilled the importance of securing their computers and flash drives.
As well, you all hate Harper so much and I find it odd yop don't realize that the civil servants do as well. They do not cooperate with the government of the day if they don't like them and they slow down productivity, lost things or misplace them etc. Meanwhile, because they can't be fired without an act of Parliament short of them committing murder, their managers' hands are tied.

Sometimes I notice them trying to turn the channel.
Now, who does that remind you of, eh?

Power and Propaganda ~ Harper and Penashue ~ Stand by your man!

The Ex-Minister of Inter Governmental Affairs has a hard time to keep his story straight these days. No wonder he is reluctant   to speak truthfully about it. He actually over spent by a huge amount during the 2011 general election and thereby had to resign in disgrace. And Not only is he no longer a Minister in Stephen Harper's Conservative Government, Peter Penashue (pronounced "Panache away", is no longer a member of parliament.

Althought he didn't say at the time, he had resigned just ahead of a deadline set by Elections Canada to come clean or resign. Did he come clean? No, blamed it all on a what he called an an oversight by an"inexperienced volunteer". The volunteer turned out not be volunteering at all and was in fact well paid as Penashue's Campaign Manager, and it turns out much more experienced than Peter Penashue. see

" "I haven't done anything wrong"
In an interview with a Labrador radio station, Penashue said he was waiting for Elections Canada to finish its report into the campaign spending, which he said he expects soon."What I saw, I wasn't pleased. So I thought that the best and appropriate thing to do was to resign," he said."I'm not comfortable with those illegitimate contributions and ... I don't think Labradorians feel comfortable with it either so I think it's proper that I resign and have the people of Labrador decide as to who they would like to have them represented in Ottawa."I haven't done anything wrong because I didn't have any knowledge to it," he added. "

The Odd Part or rather some the odd parts are that he announced that he was going to run in a By-election even as he resigned? And he starting campaigning before he ever resigned. He announced the by-election before the prime minister said the would need one. And the Scape Goat was attacked by the party thugs in out out of the House of commons and it they insisted that he was indeed a volunteer and inexperienced and had made a honest mistake. He was very incompetent they said.

Turns out the intended scape-goat had already been rewarded by the Conservative Party with a plum job. In spite of his perceived incompetence he was appointed as, well, you better read it.
The federal government has filled a vacant seat on the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB), offering the spot to the campaign manager for Peter Penashue, the province’s sole Conservative MP.
Reginald Bowers of Happy Valley-Goose Bay helped lead the Penashue camp to a 231-vote victory in the 2011 election, preventing a complete Conservative shutout of Newfoundland and Labrador. Bowers has now been named to the body responsible for regulating the province’s offshore oil and gas industry.
(ttSm adds: That the vote was actually a 76 vote "victory". And that '231' is just the PMO's numbers at the time, just spin) The CNLOPB appointment was made by federal Minister of Natural Resources, Joe Oliver.
“Mr. Bowers brings decades of experience in business and economic development,” Oliver stated in a federal government news release Friday. “He will be an asset to the board as it continues to fulfill its mandate.”
Its mandate includes: safety, environmental protection, resource management and industrial benefits. It is responsible or licensing oil and gas developments.
The federal Department of Natural Resources provided no further information on Bowers’ background within its announcement on his appointment. The Telegram requested further information. We have since received the following:
“(Bowers) is an economic development officer with extensive experience in regional economic development. His business experience and educational background have allowed him the opportunity to be heavily involved in consultation processes and gain in-depth knowledge of many government programs and policies. He is active in the community, having participated in numerous local groups and serving on local boards. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Memorial University of Newfoundland.”
Bowers saw fit to resign shortly after this story broke, But I think you get the picture!

Now with the show!

Harper protects the disgraced Minister and MP from Labrador.

Stephen Harper Says the NDP Refused to Support War on Hitler? ~ He Needs to Be Relieved of Duty ~ He is "Clearly" Insane ~

IN the last couple of days has Harper crossed the line. In his insane rant/answer to a question of urgent import on his plans for Afghanistan, He was asked directly if he would be extending the deployment past 2014. Watch the Video. He is losing it.

Yes, he said Hitler.  "We are ^NOT like the NDP we are not going to have an Ideological position .... regardless of circumstances". That was insane enough, as it was. No one is as ideologically driven as Stephen Harper. Then he went on the add, breathless and stammering.....:

"the NDP, ....the NDP, .....the leader the NDP ..  in 1939, did not even want to support War against Hitler! ...... "

History of the New Democratic Party of Canada

From Wikipedia, the free
encyclopaedia         (DON'T wonder Off!   ~  OPEN THESE LINKS IN A SEPARATE TAB ! ttSm )
n 1956, after the birth of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) by a merger of two previous labour congresses, negotiations began between the CLC and the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) to bring about an alliance between organized labour and the political left in Canada. In 1958 a joint CCF-CLC committee, the National Committee for the New Party (NCNP), was formed to create a "new" social democratic political party, with ten members from each group. The NCNP spent the next three years laying down the foundations of the New Party. During this process, a large number of New Party Clubs were established to allow like-minded Canadians to join in its founding, and six representatives from New Party Clubs were added to the National Committee. In 1961, at the end of a five-day long Founding Convention which established its principles, policies and structures, the New Democratic Party was born and Tommy Douglas, the long-time CCF Premier of Saskatchewan, was elected its first leader.[1] In 1960, before the NDP was founded, one candidate, Walter Pitman, won a by-election under the New Party banner.      **********************************************************************

UPDATE: Harper Government Drops Environmental Ball Again! <>JOE OLIVER CREATES 200,000 More RADICALS<>

NOW ON ALL CHANNELS!
JOE OLIVER
INSTANTLY CREATES
200,000 RADICALS!
Environmental and other "Radical Groups" are trying to block trade and undermine Canada's economy, Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver said Monday.
Oliver's comments come one day before federal regulatory hearings begin on whether to approve Enbridge's Northern Gateway pipeline, to deliver crude from Alberta's oil sands to Kitimat, B.C., for shipment to Asia. ~ More than 4,300 people have signed up to address the proposed pipeline over the next 18 months.

"Unfortunately, there are environmental and other radical groups that would seek to block this opportunity to diversify our trade," Oliver said in an open letter. "Their goal is to stop any major project no matter what the cost to Canadian families in lost jobs and economic growth. No forestry. No mining. No oil. No gas. No more hydro-electric dams."

Oliver says the groups "threaten to hijack our regulatory system to achieve their radical ideological agenda," stack the hearings with people to delay or kill "good projects," attract "jet-setting" celebrities and use funding from "foreign special interest groups."

Windsor Live  @Twain ~ Here's something for ya to ponder as you work the blog.

"Why does the Harper Government feel it is OK to intervene in the affairs of other nations such as dictating economic policy and austerity measures that would affect millions of Europeans and bombing Libya to assassinate the head of state resulting in major civilian casualties in the thousands? Not to mention the additional economic sanctions against Syria and the economic sanctions against Iran to impose regime change.

PLUS his recent threat directed towards the US Administration that said the Harper Regime would gladly "sell" their tar sand oil to China if the US didn't want it..."

Twain @Windsor Live: ~ Well, Windsor Live, as a reasonable man who loves Canada, I'd have to say that he has a double standard, among other issues. He does dabble in everything and then cry like a whiny school-yard bully when someone not in Canada tries to influence our environmental outcomes.

Oil Sands Pipeline Battle Turns Ugly

In an open letter defending a controversial project, Canada's natural resources minister accuses a pipeline's opponents of colluding with 'radicals' and 'jet-setting celebrities'

"Canada (*meaning the Harper Government) let loose an extraordinary rant against opponents of a controversial project to pump tar sands crude to Pacific Coast ports on Monday, accusing campaigners of colluding with foreign "radicals" and "jet-setting celebrities" to hijack the government.
The diatribe, which came as an open letter from the natural resources minister Joe Oliver, caused a furore in Canada.
It was seen as a sign of the conservative government's frustration at growing opposition to its efforts to find global markets for its vast reserves of tar sands crude, a type of petroleum deposit found in large quantities in Canada.
Opponents of the project object to over-turning a decades-old moratorium on oil tanker traffic on the British Columbia coastline, running a pipeline through British Columbia's northern wilderness, and sending jobs out of the country".
And, Yes Joe!
There are Some Well Known Voices!

And according to Joe Oliver, that is just not fair, even though we all know that they would be doing the same thing if they could get anyone as well respected as Robert Redford to take their side in the issue. And Again, I remind you that they as the government are supposed to be on our side, and they have obligations to us and not these huge corporations. And even then I will settle for their neutrality, which is my own pipe dream and is not on their agenda.

Bob Rae Slams PM for Discrediting Critics

Intimidating opponents by calling them radicals, anti-Canadian, interferes with environmental process, he says:

"I think it is inappropriate for a minister or a prime minister to interfere and intervene and frankly to intimidate an environmental process as it would be to interfere or intervene in a court case," Rae told reporters at a news conference to announce that rookie Quebec MP Lise St-Denis has jumped from the New Democratic Party to the Liberals.

The Harper government, according to Rae, doesn't understand the limits of its authority and "does not understand the rule of law. It does not respect due process."

Rae also said environmental groups are effectively being threatened with loss of their organization's charitable status. The government has long maintained that it respects the NEB process and that the recent comments aren't directed at the NEB hearings. ~ Read More:

  Kennedy Stewart, MP Burnaby-Douglas
New Democrats believe there is a very different way forward for Canada. We believe all major energy projects should be subject to proper benefit/cost analysis. For example, the oil sands are one of our most precious resources. We should not rush to development just to ship unrefined crude oil to China when Canadians import over 200,000 barrels per day of oil from Europe and the Middle-East. Instead we should focus on our own energy security, making sure we maximize national revenues by refining the oil we need within our own borders.
Perhaps more importantly, we believe government should use deeply participatory processes to build national plans for housing, transportation, employment, energy and other essential policy areas. These processes should be the antithesis of the top-down, back-room deals made by the Conservatives. They would also ensure we move forward together as a country and policy benefits the many rather than the few.

60 Environment Canada Scientists and other Researchers
 Given their Notice

OTTAWA citizenEnvironment Canada is sending notices to 60 scientists and other researchers
that their jobs are being declared surplus.

"Gary Corbett, president of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, confirmed his union was notified by the department that surplus notices would be going out this week. They are fallout from the department's announcement last August that it would be cutting or reassigning 776 people — which is about 10 per cent of the workforce.

But Corbett said the department is under "strict orders" not to reveal precisely what work these surplus scientists are doing. They broadly include engineers, scientists, biologists, climatologists, chemical analysts from across the country. They work in areas such as pollution, monitoring water quality, climate research.

"This exercise is all about money and a government obsessed with the bottom line," said Corbett: "While the government pays lip service to protecting the interests of all Canadians, it continues to target science-based departments, the front line, when it comes to protecting our environment and health of our citizens," he said. Elizabeth May To Joe Oliver
Green Party of Canada

By ~ Elizabeth May on 9 January 2012 - 3:10pm

Dear Joe,
Your letter caught my attention.  I respect you and like you a lot as a colleague in the House.  Unfortunately, I think your role as Minister of Natural Resources has been hijacked by the PMO spin machine.  The PMO is, in turn, hijacked by the foreign oil lobby. You are, as Minister of Natural Resources, in a decision-making, judge-like role.  You should not have signed such a hyperbolic rant.
I have reproduced a short section of your letter. The idea that First Nations, conservation groups, and individuals opposed to the Northern Gateway pipeline are opposed to all forestry, mining, hydro-electric and gas is not supported by the facts.  I am one of those opposed to the Northern Gateway pipeline.  I do not oppose all development; neither does the Green Party; neither do environmental NGOS; neither do First Nations.
I oppose the Northern Gateway pipeline for a number of reasons, .... Read More
from the
And Now it is My Turn to Weigh in:

The Government clearly needs to realise that it is their duty as the Government of this country to stay neutral during any environmental assessments. They seem to be on the verge of taking, by what seems a lot of force, in my opinion, control of the entire process and  openly lobby for the Oil industry at the same time. It seem that if left up to them, Canada’s Natural resources are to be doled out to their friends as Soon as Possible. It is enough to make me question the motive behind this zealous pursuit of Petro Dollars. It is almost as if they realise that they need to sell the damned stuff before it is obsolete. That is after all, their plan for Asbestos.

Good Government takes it’s time and gets it right! Good government would not have all of its ministers lobbying so openly and arrogantly for this project. It is Not supposed to be a Government project. It is supposedly a private sector affair. The Government’s only interest here has to be our interest. It has to be getting this Right!

And it is no secret that I want No one to pipe oil across the Rockies, not now, not ever.
I have less hope that the Athabasca Tar Sands itself will stop being exploited. Although I do believe that it too can be stopped, but certainly not right away. I like the Liberals approach, in that conserving it by not simply extracting it all in a greedy frenzy is the pragmatic alternative. They want to spread its lifeline out and slow it down to a controllable level of development. They actually had a Department called the Ministry of the Environment that was concerned about such things. The NDP wants it (generally) shut down entirely. Although they have weighed in (farther down the page) and in this instance they are also on the progressive track.

I like the slow approach. With that in place, we will necessarily have no choice but to get out of the habit of using the stuff. As we develop new technologies and get them in place, we should soon need less of it, we could more easily see a time when we could stop it. We need to learn to profit along the way from the new developments instead of constantly fighting

with our own citizens just to make a few men rich.

They insist that time is short, but anyone on the street can tell you that Slowing it down and prudent conservation requires NOT cutting another destructive path through the Rockies in order to fire up a lot of Chinese cars.

The Rockies are one of the youngest Mountain Ranges on the planet. They have a long way to fall. They never stop moving. Do these guys not watch The Nature of Things?

The Conservative plan is Clearly insane. There is never anything pragmatic about a rising fascist star like Stephen Harper. Why burn all the oil? Because he is a nutt

Harper's Hideous Helper ~ Harange Hides Horrific Hatred

This Just In:
Egotistic ~ Zionist ~ Racist ~ Annoying
Loser Endlessly Vindicates Anal Nutbar Tyrant

Now who on earth could that be? And what gives this nasty little man the right and the nerve to call others bigots?  Seriously?

Listen very carefully to this amazing man spin his (what I see as racist) web of idiomatic and ideological language. He must use the word 'Indian' a dozen times, but I did not and will not be counting. He is so behind in his thinking that he makes the very same mistake attributed to Christopher Columbus over 500 years ago.

He does not seem to know where India is on a map of the world, but he knows who does not deserve to own a big-screen TV.
What would someone stuck indoors for four months at a time, in a shack surrounded by frozen air and round-the-clock darkness, with eleven or so others, huddled together for warmth, need with entertainment?

His attitude sucks. His politics suck. The fact that he has a voice and so many do not,  also sucks.

His thing, he claims, is free speech. I do not believe that for a minute. His thing is money. His thing is Zionism. His thing is Conservatism.  His thing is free publicity. His thing is litigation. His thing is embarrassing.

But it may still be time for SUNTV to stop paying him. I wonder if he would be willing to speak for free? Given the value of his opinions, that would seem a fair market price.

CBC Under Seige ~ SUNTV and the Attack of the Neo-Clones!

CBC would lose $532-million annually if forced to give up advertising, loss would have devastating impact on Canadian television production industry, says groundbreaking report
The Hill Times just let me in on a bit of tyranny. Are they complicit in it? No, but they did not provide any time for a rebuttal there, either. They have no comment section. Like most of the puppet Media they are a monologue. It reminds me of the style of communication most favoured by 'dear leader'.

Mr. Harper,
have you got a minute?
No! Not really!
So, do they really want our state broadcaster to give up advertising? Not really. Just having some fun at CBC's expense? Not really. But how is this really dumb bit of tangential thinking relevent? It is Not. Not really. Is there a TV network in the world that would be able to survive without advertising? NO, not really. Not without a government that was accountable enough to allow that. Are they offering to make up the shortfall?  Hell NO!

Bob Dylan once said: "You don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows" And you do not need a study to know this. Would any man on Earth not die if he stopped breathing? I don't know, let's commission a study. All we need is every man on Earth ........ and a very strong mandate.

homer-choking-bart-funny-animated-gifSo, if this is not a "groundbreaking study" as the possible dullard above suggested, what on Earth could it mean? Is it a threat?  Not really. Is it a chance to broach the subject and get us used to the idea that the CBC is our enemy, and not just the enemy of ever tightening Government control? That may be closer to the truth. I mean seriously, who is even suggesting this? And for what purpose?

Or, like my grandmother would have said: WTF?

C.A.P.P
The Canadian
Ass. of
Parliamentary Prorogers

The bright side! If that means that the government foots the bill as it is intended to do, and releases CBC from the necessity of advertising, that might just be OK. At least it would mean that we could watch our state TV and would see no more CAPP ads, no more 'Drugs are the road to hell' ads, No more Character assinating attack ads, No more self promoting Stimulus ads, no more 'Give us your young' Military ads, no more Federal government propaganda in bright Canadian Blue. If that were the case I am willing to consider it! That is not what is going on here.

There are already real rumblings that the Harper government is thinking about severely cutting the CBC's funding and now this nonesense? This contrived and stupid mocked up scenario about how they would die if suddenly the government were to stop allowing them to compete for advertising revenues? Is anyone really saying this? And they call themselves a 'government with a mandate' and claim to be protectors of democracy?

These men are idiots. But lately it seems that they are everywhere. Is there nowhere in this Country where a man can get some rest? Sorry, but as I was typing that, history was being re-written in HarperLand. They just now voted down the Canadian Wheat Board! Canada as breadbasket to the world is no more.  I can almost hear Pat Martin uttering the Eff Word!

From the article:
" The study was released Monday after nearly two months of Conservative pressure against the CBC in Parliament, led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper's (Calgary Southwest, Alta.) Parliamentary Secretary, Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro (Peterborough, Ont.). The CBC has also been under assault from Quebecor Inc., the private-sector media giant in Quebec.

The study warned that without ad revenues, CBC would likely eventually reach a “tipping point” where it would be unable to meet its mandate under the Broadcasting Act. "
Hey? George Stroumboulopoulos? Is there a more modern Chapter being written for "Love Hate and Propaganda"?  It seems that it is also being written as we speak.

This article is pure propaganda in it's worst form. The writer acts as if this is all just business as usual, and that if he writes 'matter of factly' enough, we will mistake it as reality. Some, I suspect will do exactly that. But the fact remains that attacking a state broadcaster, is a very necessary tactic in any fascist state.
See how Harper stacks up!

There is still time before he
prorogues for Christmas
to wish Humpty Harper
a Great Fall

Attempting to limit the scope of, or any attempts to limit the content of the CBC is an overt attempt to control the fifth estate and it must be seen as a precursor to total control. It would also represent the Corporate rape of a government subsidized institution that does seriously good work, especially in the remote rural districts (although the loss of analogue signal has left countless rural dwellers with no access to TV of any kind) by the very government that is supposed to be protecting it.

The Conservatives (and the Republicans in the USA) have long been mis-representing the bias in the media, and although the media is mostly scared to death of them they claim that the press can not be trusted. At least a handful of Canadian journalists occasionally stand up and give us the goods on that conservative spin. It should happen more often.

At the 2:22 mark Harper Clearly says: "I don't think the public cares" and he repeats it!

And like I have mentioned before, Stephen Harper claims to be a human and real studies prove that humans are unsustainable when they have their air supply cut off. And since he breathes propaganda and needs to control all things, he will not overlook the state broadcaster. It would be untrue to even pretend that that is not the case. No folks, he breathes control. And now he has the added bonus of a warm glow from the ever shining SUNTV.

A Plea to Save the CBC
In the real world, Homer would have done Bart in long ago. And that is not a threat, it is another example of the kind of propaganda that we have above. They are subliminally trying to get us all used to the idea that it will all be OK and that the Government would be justified in choking the life out of the State Broadcaster.

And again, history says that Stalin would approve. And according to some, Russian state media has never recovered from his control. The Russian media is still protecting him. But he went well beyond threats. Will Harper?

And one more time, to the Hill Times, who's article has no comment board: This is not a real study. If it were it would not contain the word 'IF' 5 times in only seven paragraphs. It is a study in propaganda. (Notice how I keep repeating that word?) I 'get' Propaganda!

p.s. Dean Del Mastro.... shudddder!
It seems
you just keep
helping me write my blog!
Thanks!
